US-281 Intersection Improvements

Cost: $11.7M

Type:

Intersection Control

Description:

This project would provide improvements to intersections along the US-281 corridor, from Highway 34 north to Capital Avenue, to help improve traffic flows and safety. Specific improvements provided by this project include: improved intersection geometries, upgraded traffic signals, and new signal technologies such as long-term signal-to-signal communications and advanced warnings for rural intersections for northbound traffic.

Claude Road Extension

Cost: $4.8M

Type:

New Corridor

Description:

This project would extend Claude Road north, from Faidley Avenue to State Street, potentially including roundabouts at the intersections of Faidley and State Street. This new road would help divert some future traffic from US-281 by providing an alternate north-south route to the local commercial and residential accesses.

Broadwell & UPRR Grade Separation

Cost: $15M

Grade Separation

Description:

This project would construct a bridge or underpass at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) crossing on Broadwell Avenue, allowing for more reliable and efficient travel and emergency response as vehicles would no longer have to stop for passing trains.

Broadwell Avenue Widening & Extension

Cost: $5.5M

Type:

Roadway Widening & New Corridor

Description:

This project would remove on-street parking and restripe the section of Broadwell Avenue from 1st Street to Anna Street, resulting in a three-lane cross section. A three-lane cross section would improve traffic movements due the presence of a center turn lane. This project would also extend Broadwell Avenue from Anna Street to Adams Street, as well as widen Fonner Park Road between Adams and Sylvan Streets.

Stuhr Road Widening

Cost: $11.9M

Roadway Widening

Description:

This project would widen the two-lane section of Stuhr Road between Highway 34 and Highway 30 to an urban three-lane section, which includes one through lane in each direction with a center turn lane.

Stuhr Road / Sky Park Road Corridor and Grade Separation

Cost: $18.2M

Type:

Grade Separation

Description:

This project would construct a new corridor along Stuhr Road to connect between US 30 and Sky Park Road at 7th Street bridge or underpass at the UPPR. This connection would create a new corridor to enhance access in eastern Grand Island, allowing for more reliable and efficient travel for commuters, freight users, and emergency response vehicles.

West US-30 Bypass

Cost: $29.2M

New Roadway

Description:

This project would create a high-speed regional bypass on US-30, north of the village of Alda. The project would connect with the new alignment of US-30 being constructed by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Description:

This project would construct a high-speed regional bypass in the eastern part of the GIAMPO region, connecting Locust Street to US 34 and US 30 on the east side of Grand Island and US 281 on the north side of Grand Island.

Description:

This project would create a shared use trail along Broadwell Avenue from Capital Avenue to Eagle Scout Park connecting to the existing Eagle Scout Park trail.

Shoemaker and Moore Creek Trails

Cost: $1.7M

Description:

Shoemaker and Moore Creek Trails will connect the existing Shoemaker Trail near Shoemaker School to Cedar Hills Park, ending near the new medical center, Stuhr museum and college. This trail would provide access to the Stuhr Trail and Riverway Trail as well.

Mormon Island Trail

Cost: $2.1M

Description:

This project would extend the shared use trail on S Locust Street from current trail terminus at Riverway trail and along the Platte River to the Mormon Island State Recreation Area, providing the GIAMPO region with an additional recreational trail for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Description:

This project would create a sidepath trail alongside Stuhr road between the Wood River flood diversion channel (and proposed Riverway trail extension) and Swift Road near the JBS plant.

Description:

This project would create curb extensions at bicycle and pedestrian crossings for major redevelopment projects in downtown Grand Island.

Description:

This project would create a new shared use trail along US-281, from Schimmer Drive to Mormon Island State Recreation Area.

This project would create a new shared use trail along Stolley Park Road, from Webb Road to Stuhr Road.

Description:

This project would pave the current unpaved trail between paved portions of the Riverway trail, along the Wood River flood diversion channel between just east of Locust Street and the Platte River near US 34.

Description:

This project would create a bicycle boulevard along Oak Street with on-street elements including shoulder markings, intersection improvements, and pavement markings for bicycles. It would also include a short sidepath trail segment along Fonner Park Boulevard between Oak and Sycamore.

New Transit Operations Building

Description:

This project would create a transit operations building for the Grand Island area’s transit service provider, Central Ride Agency of Nebraska (CRANE). The building will improve transit operations and preventative maintenance, and improve communications and route planning for the system.

Enhancements to Transit Service

Description:

This project would potentially expand the services offered by CRANE to include options such as limited fixed route or flexible fixed route services. Other service expansions might include longer hours of operations.

Continued Replacement and Maintenance of Transit Vehicles

Description:

This project would continue operations and maintenance of the current bus fleet, and continue vehicle replacements as older vehicles reach the end of their serviceable life.
