Welcome to the Coast Rail Corridor Study
The San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) and Coast Rail Coordinating Council (CRCC) are conducting an important study to plan for the future of rail on the Central Coast. The Coast Rail Corridor Study will look at improved rail-bus connectivity and increased rail service for Central Coast residents and visitors, while also analyzing intercity and commuter intercity and commuter options to enhance the travel experience within the corridor.
Today’s Amtrak rail service links the San Luis Obispo region to destinations throughout the state via the Coast Starlight and to destinations in Southern California via the Pacific Surfliner. However these services are infrequent and offer travelers limited options.
As we look to the future and see continued growth projections within our region, we must plan now to create a multi-modal transportation system that includes reliable rail options that link seamlessly to our bus system and provide our residents and visitors with travel options for accessing work, school, and recreation.
Public participation in the planning effort is critical in helping SLOCOG identify the right plan for future rail travel within our region and we encourage you to engage.
CENTRAL COAST RAIL VISION
SLOCOG aims to improve rail service by:
- Establishing a more accessible, frequent, and reliable rail service to better serve residents and visitors
- Providing improved multi-modal connections between rail and bus that offer convenient travel options for reaching desired destinations
- Creating safe, affordable options for travel that link residents to jobs
PARTNERS
Working Together to Improve Passenger Rail
SLOCOG is responsible for implementing this study on behalf of the Coast Rail Coordinating Council (CRCC). The CRCC is a coalition of five regional transportation planning agencies from Ventura to Santa Cruz that work together to improve passenger rail along the coastal route.
