Developing the
Freight & Rail Plan
Plan development will include multiple data sources, stakeholder resources and community input. Information from research efforts, stakeholder meetings, and public involvement events will be compiled and analyzed to provide a final report. Needs and issues will be identified through data analysis and stakeholder engagement that is data-led and stakeholder-informed. Solutions will be developed to meet needs and issues. The solutions will be manifested as policies, programs, and potential projects. Criteria for projects will include mobility (efficiency and reliability), economic development, safety, socio-economic, environmental, security, resilience, and intermodal connectivity. The solutions will then be categorized by priority, a time frame for implementation, and funding.

About Freight Mobility
As an important national crossroads and gateway for the United States, North Dakota is a key node for supporting international and domestic goods movement to markets throughout the nation and the world. Freight modes, including trucking, rail, pipeline, and air cargo are needed to transport goods and commodities to support regional, national, and global supply chains for many industries. Supply chain fulfillment is the key to economic vitality of our state. Freight mobility is the link to get products from the source to a destination. Supply chains are designed with two criteria: service and cost. Other important factors affecting cost and service includes security, safety, resiliency, and reliability.
